I guess I had different or perhaps just lower expectations for the finale than some. I thought the finale was not bad, especially for a series that experienced premature cancellation by at least a season.

Lorne killing Lindsay was surprising but seemed somehow... appropriate. And I'm actually kind of glad they had the guts to do it. Lindsay's whole purpose in life was to play foil to Angel. Even if he didn't win, as Lindsay proclaimed with his last breath, his vision of defeat was to be killed by Angel. He expended all that negative energy towards Angel, and it came to nothing in the end. No victory, and no glorious death. I think there's a lesson there.

The fight between Hamilton and Angel was the most disappointing (although none of the individual confrontations were very interesting except Wes's). I don't even know how to comment on it. It's not that it was bad, there was just nothing outstanding or unpredictable about it (and it ended way too soon after Angel's comeback). Harmony's related betrayal was equally predictable but much more fun.

I expected Wes to die. He was perhaps my favorite character in the series, but it was time. His reason for existing was gone. And his death seems to do...something to/for Illyria that promises to introduce some complexity to the character in any future productions (mini-series, movies, etc.), or at least in the fans' imaginations.

And I thought the actual end of the episode hit just the right note. As has been pounded into our heads the last few episodes, it's a continuing battle (or perhaps the end of battles) for the(se particular) heroes. Gunn seems especially likely to die, but we won't/don't see it so we don't know for sure. Who knows about the rest.
