Hmmm...I just don't buy Kucinich as electable. Yet according to this, if I were to vote my interests... Am I part of the problem?

I don't know how much Stallman's endorsement will count for, but he's going for Kucinich as well.

This should be a fun race to watch.

I'm currently supporting Dean, because (as this survey shows) I do agree with or at least support most of his positions, and I do like his style of recruiting and fundraising. Of course, I would still support any Democratic candidate over Bush, and I do think some of the others could run an effective Presidential campaign against him. I guess I've had too many cynical political experiences to think Kucinich can win a nationwide election. But, like I said, maybe this is just being part of the problem. *sigh*

My friend who I jokingly refer to on LJ as Jerry "The Smartest Man in the World" is a Vandy prof who also supports Kucinich.

According to that quiz, I agree with Kucinich 33% of the time, although I think that may be hitting a little high (it rated my Lieberman match at 14%, yet he's the Democrat I'd most likely support). The one thing I like about Kucinich is that I always know exactly where he stands on any issue, and he does not try to sugar-coat his positions to make them politically palatable. More politicians need to adopt that style.

But then, thankfully, you are correct. He is unelectable. I doubt middle America is quite ready for the candidate who is running for President "to enable the goddess of peace to encircle...".

Well, let me let my cynicism come out for a moment. I don't think the American people want a straight-shooter. They want someone who appears to be a straight-shooter but really still plays the political games (or even better, uses the straight-shooter image to play the games). Not that the two categories are probably ever mutually exclusive. But I think we have a President and several Democratic candidates who fit the latter bill.

You're exactly right. Bush is anything but a straight-shooter, but he sure sounds honest, doesn't he? "No nation building!" "We'll get Osama bin Laden!" "We'll rebuild and stabilize Afghanistan!" "We've got to cut the size of government!" "John Ashcroft is an honest man that you can trust!" "We'll get Saddam Hussein!" "Weapons of Mass Destruction!" etc, etc, etc.

And Dean is the Democratic front-runner for exactly the same reason. Dean can actually back up more of his claims, but it's his style that counts more. If you're looking for substantial Democratic candidates, Kerry and Gephardt are your guys. But Clark and Dean are so much sexier, n'est ce pas?

Also, Kucinich is simply unelectable in the increasingly conservative United States. The ideas that we should try to eliminate poverty and take care of each other are considered evil now. It's far more moral to make rich people even richer and screw everyone else.

Politically,
Hyoun
