Affirmative Action Upheld

And here Justic Rehnquist delivers the decision in Gratz v. Bollinger, which strikes down the undergraduate "points" system.
The latter may look like bad news for affirmative action, but as UofM President Mary Sue Coleman states, "This is a wonderful, wonderful day -- a victory for all of higher education, because what it means at its core is that affirmative action may still be used and the court's given us a road map to get there. So we're very, very excited and very pleased...The central principle is that affirmative action may be used -- and that's what we were fighting for."
