It seems to be that time when everybody turns, once again, to the magical similar interest lists. (UPDATED with comments)

I might actually bother to add some comments later...
1 [livejournal.com profile] greenparty 54.855 (Why, yes, I am progressive, why do you ask? Ever since I found the Green Party I loved it. It's what politics should be.)
2 [livejournal.com profile] walk_free 43.638 (My long lost good twin. From Canada.)
4,5,&6 are actually a tie between three unsurprising communities:
[livejournal.com profile] faghags 37.190 (I think I used to be a member of this one. I love faghags as much as they love fags. Especially lesbian faghags, which are perhaps a rarer breed.)
[livejournal.com profile] bi_people 37.190 (I like bi people. Not a member tho.)
[livejournal.com profile] queer 37.190 (I'm actually a member of this one. Self-explanatory.)
8 [livejournal.com profile] jesusliberation 32.649 (A community I created for progressive Christians, their friends and allies, and those interested in progressive religion.)
12 [livejournal.com profile] noog 31.636 (A gender & sexuality comrade-in-arms.)
19 [livejournal.com profile] lgbtx 27.133 (Another community I'm a member of. [livejournal.com profile] gaychristians was also on this list, but since walk_free officially declared it defunct in favor of this one, I decided to leave it off)
27 [livejournal.com profile] rhiannonstone 26.138 (added because of this list)
32 [livejournal.com profile] queerchoice 24.728 (Yet another community I'm a member of. The creator of this community was one of the ones who helped prompt me to get an LJ account. I don't really consider myself "queer by choice" right now, but I support those who do self-identify as such.)
34 [livejournal.com profile] heathers 24.311 (On my friends list, but was frankly surprised she ranked so high. Apparently her love for video games and scooby doo gave her a boost?)
35 [livejournal.com profile] endgame 24.079 (added because of this list)
41 [livejournal.com profile] queerpoc 22.915 (Yet another community I'm a member of.)
49 [livejournal.com profile] reannon 22.206 (Former Martian, like me. No, not from Mars. We've never met in real life, but I feel closer to her than most of my friends list. Probably because we agree on a lot of stuff, and her current situation reminds me of my family situation when I was a child.)
52 [livejournal.com profile] radicals 21.982 (Yet another community I'm a member of.)
59 [livejournal.com profile] fuschia 21.628 (added because of this list)
65 [livejournal.com profile] unitarians 21.018 (Yet another community I'm a member of. May start ranking higher in the near future.)
88 [livejournal.com profile] anne 19.548 (added because of this list)
103 [livejournal.com profile] leenielikescake 18.662 (Not on my friends list, but I know her from jesusliberation, etc.)
104 [livejournal.com profile] princesswitch 18.599 (Another LJ friend I feel closer to than most. We've known each other for a long time, from elsewhere on the Net. Was one of the ones who prompted me to create an LJ account.)

Comments:

The vast majority of the people on my friends list do not appear here. Which is no surprise to me. I prefer people from a wide variety of backgrounds, perhaps moreso than people similar to me. One or two general shared interests/perspectives is usually enough.

It appears that to get on my magical list you have to be either (a) progressive in religion and/or politics (b) interested in sexuality and gender...or, at least, GLBTQS issues...or, at least, hot gay guys :P or (c) a fantasy/tolkien freak. Or, of course, some combination thereof.

It also appears that you can't be an actual person. Fully half of the significant accounts I listed above are communities. But I guess that makes sense given my initial comments.

I'm surprised I'm not on your list if [livejournal.com profile] noog is, because [livejournal.com profile] noog is really, really, really high up on my list.

I was somewhat surprised too. But then I rank pretty high on other people's lists that don't even appear on mine. But then we only have 8 common listed interests, whereas noog and I have around 20. Probably because most of your list consists of specific persons. Which I don't generally do. Though looking over your list I should probably be ashamed I don't have eve kosofsky sedgwick on my list. :P

Go to the livejournal pages, and under "Find Users" click "By Interest." Then click "Find similar people." Then put in whatever user you want (usually you start with yourself :) ). It then returns results based on a Magic Index. Which I believe is based on both # of similar interests, and % of shared interests as a part of the whole list of interests.

Oh yeah, I think more "unique" interests tend to count more, also. So like if you put down some obscure writer than only a few other people listed, it counts more than something more popular, like "cheese."
