Memphis! Memphis! I love my true alma mater. Okay, so my diploma says UT. *pfffthft* Memphis has my heart. You'll love my school.

I really don't think I would mind staying here and going to Tiger High *duck*. It should say something that I'm willing to consider it, but not UT Knoxville (though it is not directly related to love of the school, I must honestly admit). Even if it meant working full-time and taking classes in the evenings, which would take longer, it would be OK because my job will pay for up to 8 hours tuition (assuming I'm hired on permanently, which they'd better if I stay). It might even be the best option, since we would make enough that we should be able to put some money into savings, especially once we finish paying off Allen's vehicle in a few months.

Allen would probably mind more. I think he wants to get away from Memphis and away from his family, since he has been here all his life, and it is only relatively recently that he moved out of his parents' house. But he is patient about that. He doesn't have to go now, just wants to go "eventually." OTOH, our housemate has decreed that we cannot go, because we have to live with him forever. :D And with the Community Center just now getting a building, it does seem a shame to leave behind years of invested time, friendships, and what I now consider my hometown as much as any other place I've lived.

The main problem with Memphis is that, if I do stay here, I'll still eventually want to go (even if I later returned to work/live). Because they only offer a Master's here, and I really want to go for the Ph.D.. NCSU is my current top choice, based on realism, program, and location. But just being on the short list means I'm considering Memphis seriously (and, realistically, is probably a better bet than most of the other schools). But who knows how it will work out?

When I left Memphis, it was a wise decision professionally and personally. But I've always regretted it anyway, because Memphis was a great place and UMemphis a great school. It was the right decision at the wrong time.

And by the way... *pffftftht* :)m

That's why you haven't been around! Okay, seems like a good enough excuse. I hope your efforts pay off!

Yeah, I should be wrapped up by the end of the month. I've already gotten all my GREs and Transcripts and Letters of Recommendation shipped out, and should be able to mail off the rest of my application materials tomorrow for all the schools except Memphis. And I'm a shoe-in for Memphis, so I'm not worried about it.
