Her only argument seems to be that the CCC isn't a racist group because they say they aren't a racist group. Frankly, that's about as good an argument as the one she keeps decrying: that people are making assumptions about the CCC.

Could the remark have been taken out of context? Sure. Could he have meant something entirely different by it? Sure. Are people making too much of a deal out of a senator who has, in the past, been involved with racist groups? No, I think people have a right to know these kinds of things about their leaders.
Segregation was wrong, racism is wrong and dangerous if you are the wrong color or have the wrong ideas in the wrong state, and questions OUGHT to be asked about these people who are making public policy.
