It is the job of sociology to suck the joy out of life, that's why it's called the "cynical science."
But somewhat more (or is it less?) seriously, I think one can enjoy the film despite the subtext -- the artistry is brilliant, there's no denying it's a good film. For some weird people like myself, it is perhaps actually even more enjoyable when you can notice the subtext.
